Siklós Castle is an important historical landmark of our country. The first walls of the fortress were built in the 13th century, around 1251.
The first written record dates back to 1294 and can be found in the archives of the Pécs Abbey. At that time, it already had a castellan in the person of OMODEUS de TOPORD, who was the castellan of PÉTER SOKLYOSY.
The castle is still an important tourist destination for tourists visiting the city. It served not only defensive but also military purposes and was also the centre of the estates of the most important aristocratic families of the period. The castle is one of the most important Hungarian Renaissance buildings, mentioned in documents dating back to 1294. After a brief siege by the Turks in 1543, the city and the castle were conquered. It remained in Turkish hands for 143 years.
The inner castle is surrounded by 6 hectares of castle grounds, which host concerts in the summer and the annual Harvest Chicken Paprika Festival. Entertainment, classical and popular music concerts, summer theatre performances, permanent and temporary exhibitions invite visitors to the castle. It's worth taking a walk around the renovatedrampart, which offers a magnificent panorama of both Mount Tenkes and the inviting cellars.
Renaissance furniture exhibition from the 17th to 18th centuries, medieval weapons and military history exhibition, castle history exhibition, the Captain Tenkes wax museum, the exhibition of painters Kálmán Istókovits and Béla Simon, the Wine Museum, the Dungeon, and temporary exhibitions
