Palkonya

Palkonya is a one-street village at the north-eastern end of the Villányi Hills, which still preserves the architectural culture of the German vine-growers who settled here in the 18th century. The most notable monument in the village is the cellar row of 53 press houses that cover the hillside at the end of the village. Half of the dwellings are locally protected monuments, and thanks to the architectural heritage conservation programme, their façades are decorated with ceramics in the shape of a house with the inscription "Protected".

Palkonya is surrounded by three fishing lakes, whose rich bird life and tranquillity offer a refreshing experience for those who come for fishing and hiking. There are several signposted hiking trails in the area, and the international "Three Rivers" cycling trail passes through here. Palkonya's most visited celebration is the Pentecost Open Cellars, which offers wine tasting, cultural events, children's activities and horse-drawn carriage rides.
